Low impact exercise after hip injury...any suggestions?

Apparently my core muscles are not strong enough and I have damaged my hip through the general aerobics I've been doing.
My osteopath has strongly advised against any "standing up" exercises but I want to keep on track with my weight loss.
So if anyone knows of any more gentle exercises that will help maintain my progress, do please share!
He's given me a couple of stretches but I know they're not going to help me burn any calories.
