Cleaning

Hi, I was just curious who on here logs cleaning or food prep as an exercise? It says it burns calories on here, but really to be honest I am basically cleaning all day, I have a 2 year old and there's no way to track it. So, just look at those calories burned as bonus weight lost? If so, then if my BMR is 1200, and I am burning calories cleaning, shouldn't I eat a little more?

What do you have your activity level set at? Personally, I don't log things like cleaning (I find it too tough, since I rarely do a lengthy stretch of cleaning and tend to split up tasks throughout the day), but I did increase my activity level by a step to compensate for how much I am on my feet at home and at work. That way, I'm not trying to count all the time I spend moving but I still get the fuel I need.

I do NOT log cleaning as exercise. That is part of my general activity level. I only calculate actual exercise.

I cleaned my house, cooked and ran around with my son before I came here and none of it helped me to lose weight. I only log actual exercise that I do at the gym and workout DVD. That's just my opinion. If you are running around a lot then maybe put your activity level to lightly active and that should give you a few more calories.

/\ that! Yes, I know it's kind of silly that I log my cleaning. But I have my activity level on the lowest possible because I have a desk job and I watch a lot of TV & movies. When I clean my house I crank the music, I break a sweat, and I tend to throw in some bonus dance moves (hopefully the neighbors don't see me, because it's mighty embarrassing :blushing:).

This* unless I actually go on a clean the whole house top to bottom non stop I mean like breaking a sweat feel like I did something...other than that I feel its just every day living..I don't count what I do at work on a normal week so i wouldn't count normal at home activity either.... Check out you're bmr I use that as my "minimum" calorie intake
  • Yes but it's set at 1200 regaardless of what I set my activity level as!! lol, I wasn't going to log it but I was just curious

Exactly. I cooked and cleaned when I was fat just as I do now. To me it is like logging "walking to the bathroom" and is kind of a stretch, IMO. I log what is above and beyond basic tasks we all do just to go about our lives.

I factor things like that into my activity level settings. I only log activities that are done specifically for exercise as exercise, because I really don't want to overestimate my calorie burn. That's just my preference, though.
