I have been watching my food and exercise for awhile now, and recently (3 weeks ago) added in strength training via Ripped In 30 dvd workout. I run 3 days, and do the DVD alternate days from running. I have had my calories set at maintenance for a while now too, and seems to be good, in that i eat when i am hungry, and tryo to eat often and small meals. I am noticing i have slowly gained from being 140 to 141.9 in the last two weeks. At the first sign of gain, it was TOM so i wrote it off as water retention, as i always gain a couple, but now i am staying above the 140 mark i liked the look of so much... Plus i don't want to be obsessive about a number, but I am a female and have my own strange neurosis, and watching it creep up makes me think i should change my calories, but I dontt want to lose weight, i want to build muscle, and lose fat...

Any ideas or am i just being obsessive??

The body is a mysterious thing. Instead of being fixated on one number, why not give yourself an ideal goal, but realize that it can fluxuate (sp?) plus or minus 2lbs on any given day.

I'm just throwing this out there, but isn't a pound a pound? Meaning 1lb of fat is going to weigh the same as 1lb of muscle? However, muscle is more dense and a heck of a lot nicer looking than fat.

Don't be discouraged, be proud of your 23lbs gone! That is a HUGE acomplishment!!!

Well they say muscle does weigh more than fat so it would make sense that adding strength training would add muscle, hence the weight gain - which isn't much I might add. I know whatcha mean about being obsessed, I can't even eat until I've figured out the calories and logged them in to myfitness pal. As women we do become fixated on our weight but I think as long as your clothes are fitting properly and you're seeing toning and strength in your body, don't stress.

You're being obsessive. Do yourself a huge favor, read and learn from the link below:

    I am obsessing, I am...

I do realise that my muscles will retain water as the muscles repair, thats part of the process, i also realise there is a natural fluctuation of weight from water retention etc. What i have seen over 3 weeks is a slow, .2-.3 gain every couple days, or a couple in there were it stays static. I know a pound is a pound, and i hope its more that i am building muscle, but just wanted to see what other think after looking at my diary etc...

    I like getting feedback...

Please read the above. It is not muscle. The amounts listed above are with proper training. List out your current routine with weights/sets/reps.

I run 3 days a week: day one and two i cover 3.1 miles (5km) and one day i have gone progressively longer by one mile each week. This week i did 9 miles(14.4km)

i also do JM RI30 workout on eht alternate days 3-4 days a week. After the half marathon i am training for, (may 6th) I am going to start the insanity workout, and tho i will still keep running, i don't think i will have the long long runs in there as often as i do them now.

I know fat and muscle weigh the same, but the fact that my calories are maintenance and i am doing cardio and strength, is what i am doing shedding fat and building muscle?
