Okay, Here's a toughy. I'm extreamly over-weight but I can in fact jog...it doesn't wear me out like you might think it would. My problem, is that when I begin to jog/run my ankle does weird things, the only way I can describe it is that I'll be running for about 10 seconds, and all of the sudden I'm no longer running on my foot, but on my ankle. My foot just kinda falls out from under me, completely to the side, it happens sometimes when I walk too, but always when I run or jog. Always has...every since I was a little kid. Every time it happens, I fall...hard! Last time it happened, I was walking to my car at the gas station, and BOOM just fell, hurt my knee pretty bad, and everyone laughed, instead of "are you okay?" it was "HAHAHAHA" how embarrassing! When this happens though, my ankle/foot never hurts. The only thing that gets hurt is whatever I happen to land on. When I was a kid I broke both wrists because of this strange occurance. Anyone ever hear of anything like it? I've tried everything from braces on my ankles to high top sneakers. Nothing works! Thanks a ton!

I have the same thing happen to my left ankle only, but I always chalked it up to the fact that I fractured that ankle in junior high. It does crack, and swells up, when it happens to me though. It is just weird how it seems to just pop out of place and all of a sudden I am stepping down on my ankle.
The last time it happened was when I was shovelling snow in high cut boots.
Now you've made me think it might be something more than that.0 -

I actually have a simiar problem. When I was a dancer, I sprained the same ankle multiple times... like 5+ times a season. Now, my ankle occasionally "gives out" like it does for you, my foot goes to the side and I lose my balance. Thankfully, I can usually catch myself, and avoid a serious fall.
My doctor said that because of the multiple sprains, my ligaments have been stretched out, and just doesn't hold my joint as tight. Maybe you have this occurring naturally? He compared it to elastic that has been stretched too far or worn out, and doesn't return to its original shape. The only thing he suggested for me was the brace, which I used while dancing and working out for a while. If this is your case, I don't know if there's surgery available to fix it, but I do know that my ligaments will never go back to the way they were. Hope this helps.0 -

At the very least it gives some kind of answer to the problem I've been having my whole life! I tell the doctors and all they do is poke, push and prode, tell me there's nothing wrong with it, and I'm probably just misplacing my step...or just clumsy! Right?! I like that there's actually (probably) something behind my falls. It does help...I just wish I could stop it from happening :grumble: THANKS!:happy:0 -
you could be double jointed in that ankle and it's dislocating itself when you run/jog.
I have a joint problem called hyper mobility syndrome, which means I'm double jointed and have pin because of the stress it puts on my joints to do more than the average joints.... anyway, my joints slide in and out of place a lot, more like out and in right away, if that makes sense.
but perhaps your ankle is popping out of place all the way when it does that. I don't know what you can do to prevent it though, if it is that or isn't that. just an idea.
you should probably ask your doctor and see if they can figure out why it does that.0 -
I have experienced this also, both ankles. I attributed it to rolling (and likely fracturing) both ankles numerous times on the tennis court years ago.They could give at any time and I also fell several times until I got used to it and began to consciously take smaller steps hoping to prevent it and wore ankle braces for support while walking or sports. the good news is it rarely happens now days, though I couldn't say why for sure. goodluck0
