Are HRM the most accurate?

I just got a HRM with a chest strap..have to say I love it. Why? Because when I work out, like on my new exercise bike, it says I've burnt the most calories....the bike itself and even here on MFP tells me lower numbers. I am happy with the numbers of my HRM...but should I be? IS it the most accurate? I want to be as accurate as possible.

Generally yes, they are. However, they are still just estimates.
Of course I'm assuming it's a decent HRM that isn't defective and has been setup properly.0 -
Wow, you are very lucky. I got a Polar FT4 this past weekend only to find out MFP's calorie burns are overestimated by more than 200+ for every workout I do. It's been depressing. Wish mine were more like yours.0

Well it is the wal-mart wrist watch one with a chest strap...it seems pretty accurate on my heart rate...I tested it against my husband's blood pressure machine that tells you heart rate as well and it is almost dead on.0

I have also been wondering this. I wore it for 6 hours of VERY vigorous cleaning. It told me I burnt 4009 calls, and MFP told me 1890. I didn't know which to believe! I have a polar FT4 HRM that got really good reviews, so I'm hoping it's not the HRM.0
