Appetite when you're sick

I woke up this morning with some kind of sickness. I'm assuming it's just a cold, but I feel like crap. I've eaten all my snacks and meals that I had planned for today so far, but I'm thinking about dinner now and it just doesn't sound appealing. It's not what I have planned, because I love the meal, but I just have no desire to eat today really. If I only eat part of my dinner tonight and wind up being under my calories by a decent amount, will that screw with my metabolism? Or should I just make myself eat all my calories tonight?

You'll be fine. I totally can't eat when i'm sick. Just rest up and try to get better. Tomorrow is a new day. Your metabolism won't slow down that quickly.

No expert. But my guess is one or two days below calories is not going to screw you up too much. But I do say, fuel your body so it can fight off whatever is wrong. Soup, oranges, etc

Thank y'all. That makes me feel better. I already take lots of vitamins so maybe I'll just double up on my vitamin C and zinc for the next couple days to fight this off.

Have you ever heard of Emergen-C? It's a fruity tasting immunity drink mix. I swear by it. I had pneumonia last year and I drank a cup of it every day, it really helped give me some strength as I got better while I had no appetite.

If you didn't eat anything at all for one day it would not screw up your metabolism. It takes a while to do that. Listen to your body, drink plenty of fluid and get plenty of rest.

I saw somewhere, " Feed a cold, starve a flu"

I have a head cold right now that I have been fighting off for a few days now and my appetite has certainly decreased. I have been eating my meals but not the whole thing, I haven't really been snacking, only eating when I need to eat. Drink plenty of water though. I'm SO dehydrated that all I want is water.

some herbal tea makes me feel better too. And I am trying to avoid dairy like the plague because it just causes more mucous and I get more congested. And I've been eating homemade turkey soup because I don't want to eat canned chicken noodle. And orange juice or oranges.

    And get your rest. =)

I am having a sick day today as well. I always find it is best to just listen to your body when you are sick. If you are hungry, eat something light like soup but stay away from dairy, spicy or fatty foods if your stomach isn't 100%. If you aren't hungry don't force yourself. A day or two of light eating is not going to do any long term damage. Make sure to drink lots of fluids though. I usually find that I loose a pound or two after being sick even if I do eat all my calories. It is kind of a reward for the suffering in way LOL.

Same situation here today. It started yesterday but I forced myself to go into work, then the feeling of sickness hit last night and I spent most of the night awake. Today, I've eaten pizza, chocolate and potato products.

My approach when ill is always to listen to my body and accept that a few days won't destroy all my hard work, no matter what I end up eating. On this occasion, my body asked for junk and lots of it, so I fed it what it wanted. Sometimes, I won't eat at all if I'm ill.

when i was sick last week i really couldn't eat anything and the only liquid i could even taste was apple juice, so i drank a lot of it!! I didn't count my calories those days, but i bet i drank at least 3/4 of my calories in apple juice those days. Not good for me, but I bet i didn't go under by much.
