What do you folks think about this??? Beneficial to fat loss??
In the old days, the belief that working out in a fasted state burned more bodyfat, but from what my glucometer tells me....this isn't true for folks with insulin resistance.
Maybe a small High Carb Snack (1/2 Bananna w/ 1.5 tsp of Nat Peanut Butter) would be just the thing to stimulate enough insulin to turn around the essentially catabolic state that we are in.
When you are insulin resistant, in a fasted state your body secretes glucagon, and insulin levels are very low. In a normal person this tiny amount of insulin is sufficient to drive the sugar that is made by your liver into your muscles, but fat is used as fuel to preserve liver glycogen.
In the insulin resitant the sugar that comes out of your liver brings your blood sugar to 100+ basically making it nearly impossible to tap into body fat.
Before I was medicated, my after workout BS was crazy! It would start out at 95-98 then hit 139 after working out in a fasted state. Metformin really helps with this, and I can tell you, without it...I never lost a pound despite crippling workouts!
Any Wisdom Here??

I'm an insulin dependent diabetic and my sugar used to spike terribly after workouts, though I never understood why. I workout like a fiend and have to fight tooth and nail to lose even a single pound. Not sure the differences caused for those who are insulin resistant versus those like me who don't make insulin at all, but I found your points very interesting. Thanks for sharing!0

Exercise lowers your need for insulin. So I don't see why that would be the case, but how long does it take for your blood sugar to stabalize after a workout?0

If I eat breakfast after a workout....I am good in 2 hs! BS <100. If I don't eat anything (I have done this and don't reccomend it!)....It takes like 6 hrs! I usually won't see normal BS until 3-4 PM!
Its why I ALLWAYS eat within 30 minutes of training. Again I am a non insulin dependant Type II.
So now I wonder....should I eat before?? Not a full square meal! Nothing worse than an intense workout on a stomach full of food!0
