Low carb diets are not suggested because carbs are significant sources of energy, water soluble vitamins and minerals and fiber. No less than 130gm carbs. Keep your prot intake at ~ 10% of total kcal. Intake of fiber exceeding 20% of energy intake can lead to development of nephropathy. Keep total fat intake between 25% to 35% of total kcal and saturated fat less than or equal to 7%
Eat foods with a low glycemic index. These foods are absorbed slowly therefore glucose is released slowly into the bloodstream. E.g legumes, fruits, vegetables and oats.

REMEMBER there's no such thing as a Diabetic diet; Make your meal plan using either the Carbohydrate Exchange System or Carbohydrate Counting, Whichever one is easier for you.
