Hey all, My name is Erin... I am a 35 year old mother of 3, ages 16-4 years.... I am trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I am not a bad eater, actually now that I am tracking I have realized for many years I was not eating enough and then binge eating a couple days per week. The only things that really sticks out as a ?!?!?!?! is why when I was pregnant with my last 2 kids did I lose 30lbs. At the being of the pregnancies I gained about 10, and then as the pregnancies progressed the weight would fall right off. I ate the same stuff and the same amounts or more....nothing changed diet wise.... a month after my 4 year old was Born I was 185 lbs. The lowest I have been in 4.5 years. Even with breastfeeding I could not keep the weight off, and it piled right back on. Now I am struggling with the last 30/35 lbs. I have lost 30 already in 2011 (started at 223 in Feb/2011), and now am really focused on getting off the rest an keeping it off.... but this is so hard. I feel like all I do is exercise and eat. With diet alone nothing happens, and with Exercise alone I don't budge. It truly has to be a combined effort... Which makes me really worried that there is something more going on. A few years ago I had my Thyroid and Cholesterol checked..... and well as a work up for some other stuff, Which even being over weight came back fine. BMI I am still on the Obese line..... yet I am the healthiest I have ever been in my life. I am afraid that I am only half a step from gaining it all right back. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I took the Depoprovera shot for 2 years after my oldest, and really packed on the lbs, but no birth control after that. Is it something completely hormonal? Would love some feedback... :ohwell:

    Hey Erin,

I have little clue what is going on with you. I would be happy to look at your food diary...often easier to see mistakes in someone else's eating than in your own.

Hang in there. You have done great. I do think most of us have to do a combined effort to really make progress.

Have you ever thought about having your thyroid checked?

Thyroid was checked a few years ago, and it was fine... so was my cholesterol, and all my other blood work. The only thing that came back weird, is I have MTHFR.

"Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a rare genetic defect that can lead to complications in pregnancy. Many people do not know that they have this defective gene until after they have had several unsuccessful pregnancies. Others may carry one pregnancy to term and not discover until afterwards that they carry the defect.
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is the name of a gene that produces an enzyme, also called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. If a person carries the genetic mutation that inhibits production of this enzyme, it can result in hyperhomocytenemia, which is an elevated level of an enzyme called homocysteine found in blood plasma.
When the body is deficient in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, its ability to absorb folate (also known as vitamin B9), such as folic acid, is inhibited. Folic acid and B9 are both essential to the development and health of the fetus."

Anyways I now take a super high does of B vitamins to try and force my body to absorb them. I was hospitalized for 2 months with a detaching placenta with baby #2, and all three were early, but healthy other than that.
