I am getting married in 8 months(October 19th) and still have not really started any planning. We already have our deposit down for the ceremony/reception, we are getting married a farm, so its going to be a country/fall wedding. We are hoping to have nice weather so we can have our ceremony outside and have our reception in the barn. The alternative is having the ceremony in the barn if it rains. I am stuck on where I should start....I know I need to find a photographer, catering, flowers and Dj. I don't know what color I want my table cloths to be....My colors are most likely going to be Dark Red? , Orange and Brown for Fall colors...I have always loved Brown and Aqua blue together but they wont go right for a fall wedding...I have also thought about buying pumpkins for some kind of decoration whether its down the isle or just randomly placed in spots, not sure. I have two bridesmaids, still have to figure out who the 3rd one will be...I don't really talk to anyone from High School anymore so thats out, I thought about asking my cousins but we arent that close anymore. Not sure what to do there, my fiance has 3-4 guys he wants in the wedding so I want it to be even.

I don't even want to go dress shopping until I lose at least 20lbs, I have lost 6.8 so far. It hasnt hit me that I am actually getting married!!!I feel that I am soo far behind schedule on planning things I dont even know where to begin!!! Any Advice??

My wedding is at the end of September and I already have a few things booked. My main goal is to attack the people who actually need to be attending the wedding, first.

    - Wedding Photographer: Whoever you book is going to be documenting the most important day of your life!
    - DJ/Band: The sooner you book, the better chance you'll have of getting who you want
    - Justice of the Peace: Whoever you are going to have for your wedding, they will be a front and center presence at the ceremony so book them early! I still have to do this too!

    - Do you have a hotel room block? If not, I'd advice getting one for your guests. You can talk to local area hotels about creating one, if there isn't one already suggested/required with your reception. For me, mine is at a hotel so they require I have a 10 room block that I HAVE to use. And then an additional 10 rooms. I also blocked 20 rooms at a cheaper hotel option close by. It was just a matter of calling and talking to someone about getting it set up.

-Send out Save the Dates - we opted to give out a wedding website so we could change the info at any time without committing to writing one thing and sticking to it on our Save the Date notices. In doing this, we were able to show them pictures of us, give details about the venue, and also providing the hotel info, all ahead of the invitation. Obviously what you provide on the Save the Date itself (or on a website) is totally up to you.

-Wedding dress - while I knowww it sucks to shop for wedding dresses when you're losing weight, you have to look into these soon. I was waiting to lose some weight to, but at the advice and prodding of my Matron of Honor, we went out looking recently and I found one that I love (even though the floor model clearly didn't go all the way around me).

I was appalled to find out that it could take up to 12 weeks just to have a dress ordered. Your options will be slimmer and slimmer (no pun intended) as time goes by because only certain dresses can be ordered/altered in short periods of time. Just know that once its ordered and with a seamstress, you can go back a couple of times to have them re-alter it if you end up losing weight.

-Next steps would be Flowers and Cake. Things that will need to be there, but shops can handle more than one wedding per week for these things.

    Hope this helps a little!
  • Actually, I think brown and aqua would go well together. Who cares if it's 'seasonal' or not...it's your wedding, do what you want!
