Talk to Me About Interval Training...

I'm using a Precor AMT trainer in the mornings and since I only have 45-50 minutes for cardio before work I started using the Interval setting to get a better work-out.

I am alternating 2 minutes at level 11 with 2 minutes at level 6. But when I compare this to 30 minutes of straight level 8, there is only about 20 calories difference in the "burn."

Is it doing my body and/or metabolism more good to stick with the interval setting? Or should I spare my knees the Level 11 and stick to the Level 8?

What are you using to calculate your calories burned? HRM or the machine? I have found the machines at the gym are pretty lousy at calculating calories burned when set to "interval" or "random" settings, compared with my HRM.
