anybody else hate TV weather forecasters?

I worked in TV for about 21 years.... I never worked in the news department because I just hate what they will do / say to get ratings. I was almost fired once for voicing my opinion about something our VP said regarding ratings.

Anyway, here is one example of why I hate the weather people so much ( Though I know that it almost surely is a mandate from the news director )....

Tonight on a promo, the weather lady comes on and says "Join us tonight, Winter returns with a "Vengeance"! Join us for storm coverage at 11."

OK,...... the forecast is for 1 to 2 inches of snow...... how is that " a vengeance"? And does it even qualify as a "storm"?

Damn Fear Mongers is all they are.

I agree completely. At least 3x this past summer they had my poor girls convinced that there were going to be fierce tornados. Yes, the winds get bad and 'gust' up, and some of the buildings and trees get knocked down (farmer's sheds, and dead branches etc). But nothing what they proclaim as 'imminent danger'

They told everyone to go to the basement for one of them, and it took me a good few days to reassure my girls they could go out, that we did not need to (stay in the basement)

They do that with snow watches/storms here too. I don't expect them to be 100%, but they don't need to be so 'dramatic' (like your term of "fear munger" better lol )
