So to say I am new at running is an understatement....but I am going to start C25K soon and would love advice or suggestions from you guys!

I have a HRM, foam roller, and I am getting good running shoes. Beyond that....let me have it!

Go slow. If you still can't maintain your run, go slower.

    Good luck. Have fun.
  • Great Start! Start small. Stretch before running and after running. Either focus on distance or time. (ie how far you can run in 20 min or how fast you can run 2 miles). I like runing for a certain time, but that's me. Good footwear is oh so important. Run on a soft surface if possible (dirt or grass) to minimize impact on the joints. Run with someone if possible to keep you going and make you do it! Wear something light because you will get warm. Wear something colorful so you feel good and cars can see you (reflective), but not distracting. Above all enjoy and make it fun. Take music or a friend you talk to. Let me know how it goes.

I love the couch to 5k program. Before doing it, I could barely run for 5 minutes and I was able to complete the program. Just stick with it and don't give up!

How much of a beginner are we talkin? hehehee!

When I first started, I did 20mins of intervals that was 30seconds running, 30seconds walking and so on. Over the weeks I increased the running and decreased the walking ie gettin to 1 min running with 15seconds walking. I think I did it this way cos the first time I went for a run, I was gasping after 40seconds and walked home a bit deflated....so by doing these intervals I was less 'scared' of failure and in small time chunks, its easier to manage.

I'm not sure if its right or wrong but it worked for me and I now do at least 1 run a week for 45-50minutes (5 miles). I do take 2-3 stops at set rest points on the route (usually half way up a hill!). Also my excuse is that interval running is supposedly a better way of getting your fitness level up quickly (well who knows if its true but it sounds good - hehee)

I hope you have great fun and enjoy it - running is hard sometimes but make sure you bag/box/jar/bottle that great feeling of being virtuous after you're finished.....cos you will. Lemme know how you get on and what you decide to do.

    RUN!

    Max :D

First: Believe in yourself - you can do it.
Second: It will be hard at first and you may not be able to imagine how you are ever going to be able to run any distance. Don't worry about it. It is exactly that way for everybody.
Third: It gets easier if you keep at it three times a week. In fact, for beginning runners it gets easier pretty quickly. Before you know it you'll be running that 5k and laughing at how hard you thought the first few weeks were.
