where to measure for "hips"?

Hi all,

I want to keep a measurement on my hips- I've been measuring so the tape goes around my butt, to get my widest measurement (lol). Is that accurate?

widest measurement, yep.

but once you figure out where that is. mark it somehow.. like 2 inch below naval or something like that. as i lost weight, my body shape changed a bit too. my widest part changed from lower bum to upper hip back to middle bum / hip. so i was measuring a different area each time.

find the widest now, and mark that as your hip to measure in the future

yep..that is what I do...where my butt is biggest.

but I also take a hip bone measurement...where my hip bones are.

You should be mesuring just at the top of the hip bone.

I always heard hips were 9" below the waist, but I usually just go for the widest part. I'm short-waisted so the standard rules never apply to me.
