Has anyone taken boxing classes here? What are your experiences? I want to try it, but nervous to do so because I am overweight and I don't think I'd be able to keep up.

Thanks for your help!

i did a couple classes years ago. It was really fun, but also lots of work. My arms felt it the next day. I have also done quite a bit of karate in my time and it is very similar in that you do as much as your body will allow and your trainer won't push you past what you are capable of. If you're interested, you should give it a go. Try and stay with it for more than just a couple lessons to start to really see a difference.
  • I'm currently a member at LA Boxing ... I take their kickboxing class instead of doing P90X Kenpo. It is a great workout, but I've found the quality of the classes can really vary with the instructor. I've taken a boxing class with an experienced guy who trains actual boxers and I really enjoyed it, but other classes have been taught by younger guys who fight but aren't as motivating as instructors.

I've also taken their sparring classes, which are VERY different from the bag classes! :)

Don't worry about being overweight; there are ALL body types and experience levels in a typical class, at least at my location. Talk to the instructor ahead of time and tell him or her your condition. He/she will likely tell you to do your best and don't worry if you need to take a breather. At the same time, as long as you're keeping up, they will push you!

I think most of the schools let you take a free class to try it out. They'll wrap your hands and give you some gloves to use for the day, so it's really no obligation. Give it a try!
