Not just for the obvious fat on various organs (the brain blew me away)...but the obvious stress on joints. Especially when you compare shoulders, hips, knees and the ankles! The angle at which they turn from the weight was something I never dreamed would happen. Now I know why after losing 39 lbs, my body doesn't hurt anymore.

Wow! That's a huge difference! I never even knew fat could grow around the brain area.0

It's scary to think of what fat on the brain does.
It's just so amazing to see how much stress weight puts on ankles, too. Wow.0 -
Always good to have a graphic reminder. I actually had a body scan done on January 3rd thus year. Unlike fat calipers but like the picture it measured ALL my body fat and where it was located. My body fat percentage was 28% which, though, a little depressing (:)) was accurate.
Just to give you an idea.....
Women % by calipers % by DEXA
Age 20-29 16-18% 27-29%
Age 30-39 18-20% 29-31%
Age 40-49 18-24% 29-35%
Age 50-59 21-27% 32-38%
Age 60+ 22-28% 33-39%
Men % by calipers % by DEXA
Age 20-29 9-13% 16-20%
Age 30-39 12-17% 19-24%
Age 40-49 15-19% 22-26%
Age 50-59 16-21% 23-28%
Good thing is that I've lost 11 pounds and am on my way. Thanks for the post!0 -
Very interesting .. and very graphic. I always wondered what the 'mechanical' reason for breathing issues in the obese was caused by. I really noticed how the liver and abdominal area seemed to 'squish' the lungs a fair bit. Sure explains why breathing can be a chore and why folks with obesity don't breathe deeply.0

Sorry, a gross question for those in the know that would understand the scans.. the dark spots in the abdomen below the stomach and liver.. are these all fecal matter? Is there really that much in us? Yuck!0

My desire to lose weight has just intensified.0

Gwen: I was wondering that myself. Then again, I probably don't want to know. Although for some people in the world, it would be proof they are full of it .0
