Long term vs instant gratification

Hi there,

Just wondering what sort of strategies people use to maintain motivation. I find most of my goals are medium to long term and on a daily basis, I sometimes struggle with sticking to the plans because I figure I can make up for it later. Trouble is, it's an easy trap to fall into and can sabotage my progress.

Cheers.

Recruit family & friends to join in with you. Put your starting weight OUT there!! Announce on FB that you are committed to changing your life. The more honest you are with people about your journey, the less you will cheat yourself.

I remind myself that "make up for it later" is how I got myself into this mess. It's harder with food that with exercise. After a solid work-out, I feel like I accomplished something. I've sweated, and parts of me are tired and sore, so obviously I've done something. Choosing carrots over cookies... That one is harder. I have a little "Good for you!" moment in my head when I turn down junk food.
  • For me, an upcoming event motivates me. There is an annual event coming up that my hubby and I go to every year and we see all the same people there every year. It's a music festival and I love seeing all the musicians and fans and it's a big music/drink fest, haha! But it's coming up in March and I want to lose as much as possible before going, so every time I think about cookies or chocolate, I think about looking good for the event. So that's what motivates me.
