Questions on the Norditrack E. 5.5 display

I just bought a NordicTrack E5.5 ( Elliptical ) I am really confused about the display. I am new to this whole fitness equipment thing so please bare with me as I try to explain. So I have done as the Manual says to set it to my current units ( English -Miles) It says that the distance will display the number of miles ran. But it is displayed in X.XXX So for example , earlier after being on it for an hour with 4409 SSte[s. amd 1.252 Distance.. ( I will attempt to post a photo)
Now this pic shows 6 laps, however, it changes the lap number after every 2 laps I run... So this says 6 laps... If I ran 6 laps wouldn't that be 1.5 miles?? This says 1.252 ... Also yesterday I figured it out using the usage history. It had shown 3 miles had been ran on the elliptical ( and yesterday was the first time I used it) So I was going to do the math, I am the only one who uses it, and now the display says a total of 7 miles has been ran.. SO my thinking is 7-3 =4... But that doesn't add up with the 1.252.. I guess I am just really confused.. MY RPM ranges from 40-60 Any answers???
