Hiking in 18 degrees Fahrenheit

Went for a long hike yesterday. Absolutely had to since I gorged myself in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Something I swore I would never do again and thought I had defeated. Guess we always have to keep our guard up.

In order to make my allowance I concocted this idea of hiking for 4 hours no matter what. That of course was before I found out the temperature was 18 degrees. What the heck, I go anyway. I sure didn't want to be over.

I head out with wool socks, a 2 tee shirts, one over the other, a sweat shirt, hooded sweatshirt, and garden gloves. I get 30 minutes in and I'm frozen. Back to the house. Ah, you're thinking I won't go out. That almost happened. While at home I get 2 phone calls. One from a friend and one from a client. Finish those calls, grab another pair of garden gloves to put over the other garden gloves, a wool cap, sweat pants, and a winter coat. I looked for my winter gloves but all I found was 5 different gloves and all left handed. How does that happen!

So if you're taking inventory that is wool socks, 2 tee shirts, a sweatshirt, a hooded sweat shirt, winter coat, 2 sets of garden gloves, a wool stocking cap, and sweat pants under my other pants.

Back to the trail. Man I'm warm now. Then I'm sweating. Don't mind the sweat as long I'm still warm and it doesn't cool me and it never did. My mind is set on 4 hours of exercise. I just start walking, up and down, up and down and around and around. Did basically the same loop 3 times with some modifications to make it interesting. I get two hours in and I can feel it. Especially my feet. No more cheap Wal-Mart shoes I tell you.

Finally my feet are on fire and feel like I'm walking on glass. It's painful! So at the 3 hour mark I make my way back to the Jeep. Nice comfy Jeep and then a trip to Hardees for a Diet cola. The total came to 3 hours, 4 minutes and 9.7 miles. I can feel it yet. However I finished the day 191 calories under my allowance after that horrid eating binge. Lesson learned I hope.
