Hi

My name is Dan i am 28 and when i started using fitnesspal app i weighed 309lbs at 5ft 10" that was 5 weeks ago thanks to logging food and increasing exorcise i am now 286lbs :D

I currently ride to and from work 3.5 miles each way, i cycle 5 miles on my lunch break 3 times a week and also try to go to the gym 3 times a week. I am using slim fast shakes for breakfast and lunch and snacking on fruit and cereals then cooking healthy meals in the evening.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for dieting in particular good snack food as i am currently eating my own weight in rice cakes :D

Cheers

Dan

  • Wow, you are doing great so far! I have lots of different things in my diaries. Best thing that helps me is having lots of friends on here. Read their diaries and get ideas.

A favorite of mine is frozen grapes. I also like snackwells 100 calorie cookie packs. Grape tomatoes are awesome too. Sweet. All kinds of things.

Add me if you want too. I am always looking for serious friends who are committed to losing together.

Welcome! Right now my go to snacks are laughing cow cheese with pita chips or flatbread crisps, 100 calorie bags of popcorn, a large tomato with salt and pepper, and sometimes I'll have a cut up red pepper with some sort of low cal dressing. I think cottage cheese would be good too, but I personally don't like the taste of it :)

My snack of choice is low fat mozz. string cheese with red grapes.... it gives the salt with the sweet. It helps me alot. I also have cottage cheese with applesauce, again salt and sweet. I keep some low fat pretzels in the cupboard for the crunchy that I must sometimes have..... and you are doing great!!!

Rice cakes.. ugh.. may as well eat styrofoam! ;)

Snacks I like... string cheese, almonds, a slice of whole-wheat toast w/peanut butter, cottage cheese sprinkled w/cinnamon, an apple or banana, cut up veggies... just to name a few.

You're doing great, keep it up...

btw.. careful w/slimfast shakes... some of them contain like 35g of sugar.. not good. Invest in some good whey protein powder and make your own shakes w/almond milk and frozen strawberries... yummy!
  • Look up shiritaki noodles ! They have no Calories, not fat, no carbs(mostly). Can be used for stir-fry, soup, or whatever you can imagine.

I also like green smooties=Frozen fruit, cottage cheese or yogurt and Juice a hand fulls of raw greens, protein powder, blend . I'm low carb so I don't do fruit but almond milk, whey protien, cottage cheese, flavorings, 1 full cut raw greens, Yum!
  • take baggies to work of sliced veggies. Slice them up the night before and keep them in the fridge till you leave. They will fill you up much more than rice cakes and will give you much needed nutrients. They contain vitamins and minerals and fiber that help ward off cancer and other diseases. Carrots, cucumbers, sweet peppers... the variety is limited only by your choices.
  • I drink Shakeology instead of Slim fast now ...and have lost 80lbs. I dont crave for snacks anymore now that I drink it ..

I also drink shakeology, I love the chocolate because it keeps my chocolate cravings away and I can mix it with so many different things. I like almonds, apples, hard boiled egg, green beans, bell peppers, crunchmaster crackers just to name a few of my favorite quick easy snacks.

    Keep up the great work

    Cheers everyone,

I will look into this shakeology stuff thank you for the ti there.
Slim fast was more to kick start the diet don't see it being a long term thing.
Some of these suggestions sound amazing especially frozen grapes, why have I never thought of freezing them before?

<yawn> anyway the downside to a healthy lifestyle is that it is now 6.20am and I am off to the gym before work, have a great day everyone!

    Cheers

    Dan
