Losing the weight before starting strength trainin?

I am new to dieting and exercise and was wondering if I should lose the weight (30 lbs) first then start using weights to build muscle or if I should do both as I go? I want to get down to around 130 lbs but am afraid that with doing the strength training, I may only go down to 140-145 lbs... Any input anyone has will be appreciated!!! Thanks...
