maybe a silly question?

This may be a silly question, but why is it ok to be under your calorie goal if you earned exercise calories, but it isn't ok if you didn't earn exercise calories? Here's what I mean - my daily calorie goal is 1200. If I don't exercise and end the day at 1195 calories, I get a warning message that I am eating too few calories. Today I burned 500 calories at body pump, so my calorie goal was 1700 - I ended the day at 1540 calories, but that seems to be ok. Is 1200 calories the starvation threshold? Just curious and wanted to hear from those of you who know more than I do...

Its a glitch in the Matrix. MFP merely sets a warning at 1200 cals no matter if you've exercised for them or not.
