I made a homemade Taco Salad for dinner tonight, which my family LOVED.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Here is what you need:

1 pkg Foster Farms Ground Turkey (the less fat the better, but I used the 93% fat free for dinner tonight)

1 6-8 oz can low sodium tomato sauce

1 regular tomato

1 jalapeno pepper

1 tsp each of cayenne pepper, ground cumin, and chili powder

1 dash each of oregano and cilantro

1/2 tablespoon of Nestle Cocoa Powder for cooking (NOT the hot chocolate packets)

1/3 head of iceburg lettuce

1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup water

1 small can California Sliced Black Olives

5 servings of restaurant style tortilla chips

1/2 small red onion

Directions:

1. In mixing bowl pour in tomato sauce, water, cumin, cilantro, oregano, cinnamon, cocoa, cayenne pepper, the chopped red onion, and chili powder. Mix well.

2. Spray a saute pan and begin browning the ground turkey. Once the turkey is browned through pour in the taco sauce and mix with the meat. Once sauce and meat are mixed, turn the burner on low-medium and cover with the lid to simmer.

3. While meat is simmering do the following:

a. Chop the lettuce
b. Dice the tomato
c. Remove the core and seeds of jalapeno then dice the jalapeno
d. Open and drain the can of olives
e. Place all of these items in a medium salad bowl along with the shredded cheddar cheese and mix together.

4. Remove the taco meat from heat and on plate, place the tortilla chips on one side, on the other plate one serving of the meat and top with the salad mix.

5. You can top with Ranch, French or Thousand Island Dressing or eat as is.

    Sounds wonderful.

Thanks Labrat59, It was quite delicious. My dad commented my taco sauce was much better than the stuff you make using those seasoning packets. Not only that, but the sauce itself has only 204 mg of sodium per serving where as the Lawry's Taco seasoning has 660 mg of sodium (if you change the number of servings from 10 to 5).

I will warn everyone that it is on the high end of mildly spicy.
