Setting goals

Been doing some thinking about short term, and long term goals. How do you decide what your goals will be? Do you have an ideal weight in mind? Clothing size?

What is your motivation? I have several motivations.
#1 My health
#2 My family would like me to be around for many years to come
#3 My oldest DD is getting married summer of 2013. Those pictures will be around FOREVER, and I DO NOT want to look like this in those pictures!

So, my short term goal is to lose 8 pounds by March 1st.

Longer term goal is under 200 by June 1st, 2013.
