Hello all! I have been lurking on these boards for about a month now but haven't posted much. I started my lifestyle change 1/19/2009 and am...for the first time...excited about it! I have been overweight for a long time (since freshman year of college when I gained the freshman 15  ) For years, I tried various diets to lose the weight but never went the distance. Now...15 years and 3 children later (2 of which are twins), my weight was at its highest and I didn't recognize my body anymore.
Inspired by a friend of mine, I did Dax Moy's 30 day elimination diet (1/19-3/17.) Anybody heard of it? I highly recommend it although many feel it is pretty drastic. But...I figured that I could do anything for 30 days and it completely 'cured' me of my sugar cravings, fast food cravings, and need for caffeine. In a nutshell, the diet calls for you to eliminate 5 categories from your diet. The goal is to feed the body only natural and healthy foods and bring your system to a less toxic state. You eliminate:
1. All dairy (except for eggs and butter)
2. All refined sugars and sugar subsitutes
3. All caffiene and alcohol (this one gets most people to bow out)
4. All processed foods
5. All wheat (including pasta)
You are probably asking...what can you eat? You CAN eat meats (limiting red meat), veggies, fruit of any kind, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, brown rice, any seasonings, olive oil, etc... You get the idea. The first 5-7 days were tough. My body truly went through withdrawls :explode: ! But after that, it was much easier. I found my body didn't crave those foods anymore. After the 30 days, I slowly reintroduced some of the foods back into my diet but few have remained a part of my regular diet. I drink diet coke (2-3 per week), I have a glass of wine or two (mainly on weekends) :drinker: , I drink skim milk and I will allow myself a sweet occassionally. Since the beginning, I've lost 15 lbs which is half way to my ultimate goal.
I've found this site so informative and love the food and exercise tracker. The site recommended I eat about 1200 cals per day and somedays, I have a hard time eating that and feel like I am forcing food down my throat AND other days, I am at my limit and still hungry. Anybody else feel that way? Most of my friends say 1200 calories isn't enough to eat. Of course the friends that say this weigh 105 lbs soaking wet
Thanks for listening to my story. I look forward to hearing your input.
