Gym Equipment and Calories Burned

Options
How accurate is the gym equipment when determing calories burnt? Why is the extra calories for exercise on myfitnesspal so much higher than on the equipment? Should I actually be eating as much as it says?

In my new experience with a HRM, the machines are off by a lot that is why unless you have a HRM I feel you should not eat your exercise calories back because you are doing so based on a false reading. The closest I got without an HRM is to take 100 calories per mile walked but even that is off a bit for me. My treadmill at the gym is off by hundreds of calories every day.
