Anyone use a pedometer to monitor everyday activity calories

Does anyone use a pedometer to get a better sense of their everyday (non-exercise) calories? I know there's the fitbit, but it's a little pricey. I saw the Sportline Any Wear at Winners for $17...says it is an acelerometer and it tracks calories, which sounds a lot like the fitibit. Has anyone tried this?

Do these pedometers usually show your total calories per day, including BMR? Or maybe you would have to add whatever is says to your BMR? Or maybe you need to prorate your BMR for the time you are sleeping, and add that to what it says? I already have a HRM for when I exercise, so I'm more focused on tracking my everyday activities.
