I have a hard time reaching my calorie goal. I just don't eat that many calories. it was a stretch to eat 1500 yesterday, and drank a bunch of beer and still was over 500 too low on calories. any advice on healthy snack I could use to get closer to my calorie count?

Raw Almonds. Trader Joes Just a Handful single serve bag is about 200 calories.

High calorie snacks... nuts have good fats. Eat full fat dairy, cook your veg in olive oil or use it as a dressing.. add in some cheese. Look for high calorie low volume snacks (basically the opposite of what the rest of us are looking for!). If you like avocado that's a good one too.

Nuts, full fat diary, use oils for cooking like olive oil or sunflower oil. My BF has the exact same problem. He just doesn't eat much! Eat smaller meals more frequently, and work on including good fats in every one. Find foods that have high calorie density.

I was having this problem (it amazed me when I first started logging!). Like the above posters have said, nuts and avocados are great, and I've also found using the full fat versions of things like yogurt and butter to be a great help.

Don't be afraid of healthy fats...they won't make you fat, and are really tasty.

Could you make your diary public? It would help to give you more accurate advice, and also to see what your goal actually is...

Thanks for all the advice everyone, just set my diary to public. I logged everything yesterday and today so far, just got motivation to log much better because I haven't done so well in the past.

I really need to eat more healthy and more generally. I'm really big on protein because that's what has worked best for me in the past. I think being a type O blood type and having a build that is closer to a cave man that a modern man makes me thing that a more high protein diet would be best, plus it's what my primitive brain craves
  • was looking at your weightloss so far......Seems to me you are doing all the right things ;)

Nuts, peanut butter, yogurt, and healthy oils. One thing you should definitely eat is pumpkin seeds. Get the kernels, not the entire seed. The whole seed has massive amounts of sodium if they are salted. The kernels even when salted are much better. And pumpkin seeds have alot of magnesium which is of vital importance especially for men. They'll keep your prostate healthy.

I to understand your problem...I used to be a compulsive over eater with meals of 1,400+ calories...Since starting my diet about a week ago I am having a hard time meeting my 1,900 net calorie goal especially on days when I do cardio and burn significant calories. I am thinking that nuts might be the answer and maybe adding some chocolate milk on occasion which will be higher in calories but is a great recovery drink!

    Good luck!

A couple of things...try to bulk up your breakfast a bit. Have some yogurt and fruit with the granola. Drink a glass of milk. Whole milk, if you need the calories. Make sure your meals are well rounded, and somewhat evenly distributed, calorie-wise. I try to have both meat and veggies at lunch and dinner. And the key is to remember that eating healthy doesn't mean eating bland food. If your food is bland and tasteless, you won't want to eat more of it. Dairy is a good source of healthy calories, too. At the end of the day, if I'm calorie deficient, I like to eat a PB&J on wheat toast. The peanut butter helps keep your blood sugar from spiking, and it's tasty.
