I'd like to find the guy who created tabata!

Stupid Tabata protocol! My legs are mush right now.

What am I thinking promising myself I'll do this 3 times a week? I HURT!

I hope I never meet the dude who created it, because if I do, and it's within an hour of when I finished, he might not survive the encounter.

Seriously though, it's the HARDEST workout I have ever done, even after doing it for the last two months and suffering in silence, it's still BRUTAL! I'll tell you what though, I can do a hard, 4 mile run without even breathing heavy at the end of it. I couldn't do that before I started tabata.

If you're in good shape, and you want a nasty workout, and have a spinnng bike around, google tabata protocol, you'll thank me in a couple of months (you'll hate me, but you'll thank me).

Are you doing this on a spinning bike or running on a track or both. The scientific results look really good. I am not sure I could handle running 20 seconds and resting 10 seconds for 4 minutes. Doesn't sound like much but that is almost 3 minutes of sprinting and only a little over a minute rest. Sounds like a burning chest to me. Maybe I will try it on a bike first.!

    Thanks for the info though.

I do it on the spinning bike. I used to run, but believe it or not, because I'm so used to running, the running tabata is easier for me then the spinning bike. If you aren't a runner (or haven't been for a while) running might be better, but I like the bike cuz it takes me out of my comfort zone, and really kills my thighs and quads the way running can't do anymore (If it wasn't for my bum ankle, I could run all day, it's just the type of body I have).

and yeah, I get ya, it really does sound easy when you read through it doesn't it? It's SOOOO the opposite of easy. Anyone who says it's easy is either lying, or they are of elite athlete physical shape.

I read about something similar, though it was 30 seconds of high intensity followed by 30 seconds of rest for 10 minutes. I guess this is where that guy got the idea from. If I ever get a treadmill or trainer, I'll have to try it.

I don't know, but it's been around for a while. Dr Izumi Tabata published his protocol findings in 1996 so unless this program was around before that...

All I know is I've been doing it 3 times a week for about 2 months now, and my mile time has gone from about 6:35 to 5:45 in that 2 months, and that's no joke. Usually you can shave 10 to 15 seconds off a mile per month of training (even hardcore training). But I shaved 25 seconds per month off, that's insane. And my body fat % went from about 13% in January to 11.5% today.

no kiddin huh? I almost soiled myself when I looked at my watch the other day. I don't do timed miles very often, but I decided to try the other day cuz I was feeling good, didn't think I felt that good though.

So is this the only cardio you do during the week and you do weights the rest of the week? I have got to get rid of some more body fat. Down to 12% but it has been painfully slow.

actually no, I do heavy bag routines a couple times a week,or I run 2 times a week. But I also do 2 day of weight training. I do 3 days in the winter but I can't do much upper body right now as I am a pitcher for a mens baseball team, and upper body weight training during the season is a no no. It's a good way to tear a muscle.
