Negative Thinking Effecting Progress

Hey guys,
I am 37 a mom of 2 boys aged 18 and 11 and I am in Ireland - I have lost 13lbs and have many many more to go at least 70 - just looking for some support. One thing I really struggle with is negative thinking. I get so far and get so motivated and I get impatient and the negativity clicks in and I start thinking that I am perfectly fine the way I am and I should be allowed to enjoy this 'one' piece of cake and this 'one' plate of chips and this 'one' chocolate bar. I have the biggest incentive anyone could have as I am spending the summer in Greece with my family and taking a sabbatical from work for 3 months.
This is my biggest downfall people, I will get up and get our walking in the rain and cold (as it is like that a lot here in Ireland) and that doesn't bother me as I feel good afterwards, its the negativity - So I am reaching out to those who were over weight for a long time and then made the change - how did you get through the temptations and the thoughts of just giving up ? I believe if I can conquer this I will succeed.
Let me know your thoughts ........................

You've got 2 excellent reasons to stick with this and live a healthy lifestyle. And they are 18 and 11.
To get through the doldrums is really tough. Negative thinking is definitely a weight loss inhibitor! I have to get my butt kicked into sticking with it when I'm feeling really depressed. But you know what? I always feel better if I do. And then you've got the added bonus of feeling accomplished because you just did it! Just do it, it's my mantra. I don't feel like it. Just do it. I don't like healthy food, just do it! I'm tired, just do it! I always feel better after just doing it.
Hope this helps!0 -
I only have about 5 weeks under my belt on MFP. I just finished Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout and it was really a challenge. I have four boys ranging from 16-3 and a million excuses a day why I can't workout etc. What has worked for me is just turning off that voice in my head. To get my workouts done I go on "automatic pilot" when my alarm goes off. Once I get to the gym or turn on my workout I'm ok. Its that in between time where I start bargaining with myself about food or working out that gets me in trouble. This has been my biggest obstacle and I'm still working on it. Thanks so much for the add and your support!!!You can do this!0

It IS tough to force yourself to workout every day..or every 2 days---especially if you're like me and really never did much before..it truly is a LIFEstyle change.... I have a printout I found and refer and think of it often... "YOU ONLY REGRET THE WORKOUTS THAT YOU DIDN'T DO" and its so true...try to remember that amazing feeling you have once you've finished your workout...it helps keep me going good luck and add me if you like...0

I SO know what you're talking about...I love to eat. You've gotten some great suggestions. You might also try hanging pictures of Greece or a woman you think looks fit/thin on your frig or cupboard. Change your phone/computer screen to the same or motivational saying. Add LOTS of friends (me too if you want!) to your MFP so they can offer you support. Also, make sure you track your food no matter what--it becomes a numbers game for me.
You CAN do it!! What a great role model you are being for your kids!!!! What an amazing sabbatical you're going to have this summer feeling thin and fit!!!!!
Hang in there!!!0 -
Don't punish yourself eating things you consider "bad". If you restrict yourself too much, then it isn't worth it. If you go to the gym and burn 400 calories, it isn't the end of the world to go eat a chocolate with 80 calories. Just don't go over board on the junk and make sure you get all the nutrients you need.
You need to ask yourself what and how will you eat when the weight is gone. It is just about moderation. When you eat things that are bad, make it things you love to eat. I cut out stuff I don't really care all that much about like chips, soda, donuts, muffins, etc. But, I still eat small brownies and pretzels with cheese occassionally as I know I will probably want to enduldge some for the rest of my life.0 -
First of all don't see losing weight as a punishment. Try to see it as a reward for yourself and your children. I have the same thoughts sometimes, as I am sure we all do. I used to get angry at everyone else because I thought "why should I have to look a certain way..why can't people accept me for how I am". But then I realized it was not them, it was ME who couldn't accept it, and it was me who wanted to look and feel a certain way. These thoughts are really tough and are very negative, but they will pass. You gotta just keep pushing on.
My friend has been very sucessful at losing weight and the one thing she did was treat herself every Sunday with anything she wanted...a piece of cake, a candy bar, a cheeseburger, a sundae, etc. She would tell herself all week that if she does the exercises she has planned and eats right all week, that it will be her reward. She called it her "treat". I dont' know if this is great advice, but it seemed to work for her. She has told me that as she gets in more shape and used to eating good food, that she is craving that high-calorie food less and less. In the past month, she has skipped two Sundays from having her "treat". Not because she was denying herself, but because she just didn't want it.
I think that if you change the way you look at losing weight, it will help tremendously. Good luck.
