Do you ever bank your exercise calories burned for a future event when you know you will need some extra calories available? And if you have do this does it work well for you? Thanks for all input!

i always eat at least some of my exercise calories on the day they were earned, however i also use sunday as my "free for all" day if i have leftover ones from the week. sometimes that falls on a special occasion type day, sometimes it doesnt and i just switch the days and call it good.

No, I prefer to keep things very simple.
  • My body does not work this way. I work out hard some days and other days I just work out. In the end, I try to maintain calories through the week and have one cheat day.

I wouldn't for a month or anything but like if I had a wedding to attend on Saturday night, I might work extra hard this week and eat back like 1/3 of my burns at least. I'd also try to plan ahead... So like, if they sent out the menu in the invitations, I'd count the calories, get a general estimate of how much is in a piece of wedding cake, add a few drinks if I felt like it... But would also figure out how any calories I would burn dancing at the reception or what have you.

I honestly don't know how well this would work, as I usually try to burn my extra calories the day of. If I way overdo it, I would make it up after the fact rather than overdo exercise in anticipation. You might gain all the more from a big event if you don't eat enough leading up to it. Better to develop your muscles to be better prepared for processing the calories than to starve them in anticipation.

I track calories per week now instead of per day. If I'm over one day, I'll make it up another day. If I'm under a few days in a row, I'll indulge some later in the week.

Basically I'm "banking" all my calories now, whether they are my "standard" or "exercise" allowances. They slosh about in a seven-day bucket (Sun-Sat) instead of jiggling in seven one-day test tubes.

I don't think the body knows the difference really.
