Sleepwalking Children

So my 6-year-old son started sleepwalking a few days ago. He would get up from bed, walk to the couch, pee on this specific cushion as if he's using the toilet, walk back to bed, and to back to sleep.
The first time he did it, it was funny. My husband said he did it when he was a child, though he would end up in the kitchen.
But it's been a few days and the same exact thing almost every night. We're staying up late to catch him and try to stop him before he reaches the couch and redirect him to the toilet.
We just thought to keep the light on in the bathroom so we're gonna start that tonight. But is there anything else we can be doing? Has anyone else gone through something like this?

My nephew would walk to the closet open the door and pee. My sister eventually after trying other things got an alarm that goes in the bed some how. It didn't wake him up but it alerted her.
He was doing really dangerous stuff in addition to the peeing. He actually made it out of the house a few times and ate wierd stuff like coffee grounds. My sister was also a child sleepwalker. She would make herself a bowl of tomato soup in the middle of the night.0 -

My son was about 5 1/2 when he started to sleep walk... he use to go down stairs and pee on my magazine rack or in a corner.. the next morning didn't realize he did it... We have him use the restroom right be fore bed and no drinks half a hour before sleep so he doesn't have the urge to pee.. also a light should help too since that might trigger his brain to go there.. im not sure but i know once we started having him pee before bed it seemed to work ...0 -
Oi, he already gets into enough trouble when he's awake!
Maybe it's time to get a baby-gate again. It wont stop him but we'd definitely hear him trying to climb over it in the middle of the night.0 -
Check with your pediatrician. There should be an alram for this. It may be somehting insurance covers. Or put a baby monitor in his room so you can hear when he gets up0

Unfortunately, the economy hit us back in November and my husband has been out of work since which means no insurance. We applied for private insurance but the application has been pending since December.
Anyway, I was able to get a few ideas from your messages and I'll try them out.
Thanks everyone!0 -
