Any students out there (or anyone else with some kind of homework) who CAN'T stop eating when doing essays/revising? If it's a nice essay, easy.... When it's a hard one and the deadlines due and you have an all-nighter (its 2.30am here).... I'm giving up til i've handed it in on wednesday. Tonight Ive eaten many choc ices, a pizza, cracker biscuits, peanuts, cereal, yoghurt.... all on top of normal meals....
Lack of sleep+hard essay= all nighter= food OVERLOAD. :explode:

Anyone any advise? (and MFP definitely isn't procrastination....)

You have to get the food away from the work! No other way. I know it makes it easier to get through a long night with food, but you need to disconnect it. I'm a chemistry graduate student, I know what it's like to pull a late night! Portion control is the key, and don't keep too much junk around so you won't be tempted.

I'm not a student, but I write for a living, so basically I'm constantly writing essays with urgent (or past due) deadlines, and yes, the urge to munch can be overwhelming. A few things that help - keep healthy foods around to munch, that way you don't do as much damage - apples, clementines, carrots, etc... Drink lots of liquids (No-cal, obviously) - ice water can actually help wake you up, but otherwise, diet soda, coffee (try with skim milk and artificial sweetener, definitely not a calorie-laden Starbuck's monster), tea, etc... And last, instead of grabbing something to eat when you need a break, try exercising for 5 minutes - go for a walk, do some push-ups, sit-ups, etc... - it will do more to get your blood flowing again then eating. Good luck!
  • My masters thesis earned me a couple of pounds but I think it would have been worse if I haven't kept my place cookie and candy free. I always tried to eat mostly fruit and low fat yogurt or cheese, and drink an enormous amount of tea...

Thank you :) I think part of it is just nerves- knowing that im not going to get a first because i'm just not interested in it. I am going to go for a walk now to clear my head before doing the next paragraph, adn stock up on fruit for when revision really hits in. I think tonight i'm jsut going to have to write off as a bad night and start fresh when this one's over.
