Okay, so I'm running my first 5k next Sunday-- so what is the wisest way to continue running/training this week?

I've been running 4-5 times a week, generally though on a 3 day on, one day off-- but sometimes four days straight--

Should I run Saturday at all? Eat pasta? What??

Guidance would be most appreciated--

Okay Marla - I pulled out an old 5K Advanced training program to see what it scheduled for the week of race. It has runs scheduled on Sun/Tues/Wed/Fri the week before a Sunday race.

Personally, I like to do a very light jog the day before a race. Mostly just to make sure I feel like moving and I am not getting all stiff before a race. I usually do a short run (half the distance or less) during the week at my race pace. Just so my body remembers what that pace feels like.

Feel free to carb load Sat but a 5K really doesn't require carb loading - it takes about 40 minutes before you burn through a normal supply of energy calories. Do not by any way shape or form eat anything out of the ordinary. Make sure you are consuming foods that your body tolerates well. Hydration usually isn't a problem with 5Ks either but if you do a good job of consuming your water during the week it can't hurt. FYI: Line up early for the toilets that seems to be the biggest hurdle of any race morning routine:wink:

You will do GREAT! Enjoy - I love race days!

Thanks, so much-- the race is right by my house, so I'll make sure to go potty before I leave, like I tell my kids--

My "race pace" will be simply to finish without embarrassing myself-- ha. I've been doing about a 10 minute mile, so we'll see how I do.

And yes, I see what you mean about it not being necessary to really carb load, it's only a 30 minute run-- I can live off of what food is stored in my hips for longer than that--

Thanks for the schedule, though-- that looks like a keeper-- thank you so much!!!!!!
