This might be silly but here it goes...I am a bigger girl and started my new healthy living almost 4 weeks ago. I have not started exercising yet but have changed my eating habits drastically. I went from fast food, take out and soda everyday to making meals, counting calories and drinking my 64 ounces of water. Over the last 3 weeks I have lost steadily, on average 3 pounds a week. Last week I started weighing myself every morning to keep a better watch and I actually did lose everyday and if not I maintained. WELL this morning I hopped on and have gained 1.4 pounds. That might seem stupid but in my head if I am doing everything the same why the heck would I have gain and so much in just one day? Thank you in advance for your help!!! :noway:

You are doing great! The first week/month you will lose the fastest, then it sort of tapers off to a slower rate of loss. Don't worry about the 1.4 pound gain. It's water retention. Keep doing what you are doing. If you don't like to see the weight fluctuations, try only weighing once a week.

You might have had too much salt yesterday and be retaining water, you might have worked out a little harder yesterday and your muscles are retaining water. You can be experiencing TOM water retention. It can be any number of things. If you weigh yourself everyday you have to expect daily changes in your weight. It's just a part of life. I would not worry about it too much. If you binged and ate over 3500 calories you gained a pound of fat. If you ate within goal it is most probably water.

Weighing yourself everyday won't really give you a good indication of progress, pick a weigh in day and keep it the same every week , same time of the day etc.. there are way too many variations day to day that will fluctuate your weight , a weekly benchmark will smooth out the variations and give you a better progress meause, 3 lbs a week is great keep it up!
  • Thank you so much for such quick replies! I never knew water retention can be such a pita lol. And I will start weighing in once a week. Thank you all soooo much!!!! :flowerforyou:

I agree with only weighing in once a week. My trainer told me to stay off of my scale at home. He said for me to think of it as a piece of cake..DON'T TOUCH IT!! Also make sure you are drinking 1/2 your weight in ounces of water per day. An average of 3 lbs per week is AWESOME!! Good job!!
