New transmitter for Polar FT4 HRM?

I've been having problems with my HRM for several weeks. I hadn't been taking the best care of the strap and transmitter, so decided to order a new one. I the one that I ordered is exactly the same as the one my HRM originally came with, however I can't get the watch to recognize the new transmitter. It just keeps reading 00. I can't find any information about this on the Polar website. Has anyone here successfully replaced the transmitter for their FT4?
