Hi MFP ! Well I have been working on running for the last few months. I have a 1/2 marathon on Sunday!!!! Over the last couple weeks I have been having some discomfort in my achilles tendon....I would run and it would bug me,...I thought it was an excuse for me to stop running since I don't think its my favorite exercise, after a mile it would stop. My last run it was bugging during my warm up walk!!! I went for a hike Sunday with lots of elevation...and it really was uncomfortable......I don't want to be a wimp...but I am loving exercise so much (6 days a week) that I just can get injured to hold me back.

Anyone have any tips?

Happy Valentines Day

I hate to say it, but everything I have read about Achilles Tendon injuries is that you have to rest them or they will get much worse.

I have had it since November, and I just went to sports medicine doctor this week. It will take along time to recover, at least 6 more weeks he thinks. My treatment will include physical therapy 1-2 times a week, ultra sound treatments, a topical cream 3 times a day, stretching exercises (I believe these will include eccentric heel dips), and heal lifts for my shoes, and while I don't need to rest - he does not recommend strenuous exercise either. Frankly, I was a bit surprised about not resting, but then I have later read about the poor blood supply in the achilles tendon areas and that rest per se does not heal this condition. I am going to go with the recommendation of the doctor I saw - for the time being - and I also have another appointment at a podiatrist for a second opinion.

My recommendation is to consult a doctor, I hate going to medical professionals but I think with injuries you just have to (unless you had the same condition before and you know what works for you).
