Salad dressing problems

I love to eat salads and mien are completely good. I don't put cheese on them very often but salad dressing is killing me. What else could I use? Like lemon juice lime juice something like that.

    Just make your own so you know the ingredients. I like to mix canola or olive oil with red, white or balsamic vinegar and sometimes a little lemon juice. Add a little salt, pepper or whatever seasoning you like. You can make a creamie type dressing with low fat buttermilk or plain greek yogurt.
  • Thanks a lot. Creamy italian is my fave but it's killing my calorie count and my will power.

    I mostly just use olive oil and vinegar (balsamic or otherwise).

    I also like to add tons of freshly ground black pepper (especially a good black pepper like Telicherry) and plenty of salt.

    I don't know how many people put salt on salads, but (like everything else) it really brings out the flavors.

    BTW, the word "salad" comes from the word "salted".

    Balsamic plus olive oil is my fave. I do salt & pepper once in a while when I remember. It really does make a difference.

    Gotta go easy on the oil because though it's the 'good' fat, it still means lots of calories.

    I love that kind of stuff, I need to try it. Thanks. I feel like a salad is the only way to go at some restaurants and I don't want to ruin a meal with a dressing. Thanks.

    i either just put balsamic on mine or some lemon juice with a drop of pepper (im not a huge pepper lover).

    grated cheese is something i can not part with so i always throw a drop on and mix it into my salad.

    I agree that the dressing can be a killer so DIY approach is deff best

    Check your grocery store (or maybe specialty store like Whole Foods) for Walden Farms salad dressing. It's fantastic! No calories, no sugar, no fat, no carbs, no gluten, and no chemicals. I'm currently eating a salad with their creamy bacon dressing and it's sooo good! It's made with natural ingredients and spices, and is so good. It's got about 160mg of sodium per serving, but that's not too bad.

    Balsamic Glaze. Gia Russa is a cheap ($6/bottle) brand they have at Publix here.
    You can also make your own by simmering balsamic vinegar util it is 1/3 or 1/4 original volume of liquid.
    I think it is 30 calories per TBS.
    It does not take much. Just drizzle it.
    Do not need to add oil.
    This is very good. I liked this pre healthy eating.

    Also greek tzeke sauce (Spelled wrong)
    This is the sauce on Gyros.
    Nonfat plain greek yogurt
    Add de-seeded and diced cucumber
    Lemon juice
    Salt
    Dill paste

    Much better for you than typical salad dressing.

    Also experiment with small amounts of
    Dijon mustard
    Honey
    Vinegar (All different kinds)
    Lemon Juice
    Spices (tarragon maybe)
    You can add oil, but you will get a lot of flavor without oil too.
    Personally, I would rather have 100 calories of Feta are a potent cheese like a good bleu instead of the olive oil.

    Wishbone makes a great Balsamic spray dressing, i think they also have it in italian and ranch
  • I was crazy for ranch dressing, I replaced it with salsa instead. Can always add a little ranch to the salsa. Really saves
    on the calories and soooo good for you. I like hot stuff so I also add a little hot sauce to it:)

    If you are like me and you're trying to watch your calorie intake and you miss Ranch dressing so bad, this is a great alternative. I just experimented today and it tastes SO good.

    2 containers (around 5 oz size) of Stonyfield Oikos - Greek Nonfat Yogurt (you could probably use any brand of greek yogurt)
    1 envelope of Bill's Hidden Valley - Ranch Mix (sold in the salad dressing aisle)
    Mix well in resealable container and keep refrigerated.
  • I refuse to give up ceasar salads with real dressing - so I get it on the side and I dip my fork tines straight in and straight out - only a little bit gets on the fork, I stab my salad and voila. There's just enough to taste, but I can eat a gigantic salad and don't even eat 2 tablespoons of dressing.
