DRINK YOUR WATER!
True story . . . My husband ended up in the ER on Saturday night. He was out with his brother, some friends and our adult son. He told my son he didn't feel well and then hit the floor. He was out for 10 minutes. He came to and passed out again a few minutes later. They had already called 9-1-1 and the EMT was there when he passed out the second time. They transported him to the hospital. I got the call at about midnight (from our frantic son) and had to make arrangements for someone to come and watch the little ones and then made the one hour trek to the hospital.
After a barrage of tests on his heart, lungs, brain, etc... (including an MRI, Cat Scan, x-rays, blood work, urine tests, etc...) they determined he was dehydrated. His symptoms - slight nausea and general "ugh" feeling. It came on quick. He didn't even have time to sit down.
We were glad it wasn't anything life changing like cancer, tumor, etc... but all said and done, with all the co-pays we will have, this is an expensive lesson to DRINK ENOUGH WATER.
If this helps one person to get the message I will be glad.

Thanks for sharing - that would be scary!!!0

SCARY, and I am so glad that it is easy to fix.
My daughter has been hospitalized two times for dehydration (from stomach viruses) and it is scary. I'll keep you and your husband in my thoughts.....0 -
I just grabbed my water bottle and chugged, thanks for the reminder! Sorry to hear about your husband.0
-
that's so scary! Hope everything is ok now and I'm already refilling my water cup!0
-
Duly noted! Refilling in a moment! I'm sorry that happened to your husband!0

I'm sorry to hear that... However, on the flip side. As someone who has gotten horribly Ill and could not even sit up because of water toxicity- Drink the amount of water your body NEEDS. No less, no more.
Best of luck!0 -
Sorry to hear that! It's scary how quick it can come upon us.
Like the above poster said, make sure you only drink what you need. My stepfather ended up in the ER from passing out for the opposite reason. He was drinking water and nothing else. They were treating him for a blood cloth but after a few days of tests they figured it out. Doctor told him he has to have a glass of milk or juice every day.0 -
Sorry you had such a scare and thanks for the advice. Wasn't it the same thing for that girl that fell off the stage on Idol? She could have really been hurt, glad she wasn't. Any time you faint you are at risk for serious injury from the fall.0

That same thing has happened to my dad a couple of times.. He never drinks water!!0
-
That has happened to me too. I don't think I've ever been so sick in my entire life, and it was the same thing at the hospital - ran 1000 tests. I ended up with kidney stones after that. It's a horrible experience.0
-
yikes -- glad I keep my water bottle with me 24/7! I generally end up drinking something like 10 cups a day without even trying. I really notice a difference in my general well being as compared to my pre-hydrated days.0
-
Thanks everyone! When they told him he was dehydrated he told them "I had a couple cups of coffee, some juice and a can of pop - I can't be dehyrdrated.' No comment....0

Wow, my husband went through a similar experience when he was depressed.0

That sucks, sorry to hear. Hope he's doing better and has learned form his lesson! Do you know how much water he drank or if he just ate dehydrating things (curiosity, it kills me)?0
