Can you tell me what this means:

Goal = 1200
Food = 577
Exercise = -0
= Net 577

I have no idea what Net 577 means?

I've been on the site for just about a month and I can't figure it out!

    Net = the amount of food in less exercise!

    That you have eaten 577 calories of your 1200.

    if you had exercised for...say..300 caloires, you'd have eaten a net of 277 of your 1200

    The way MFP works is to give you a daily calorie goal to reach your stated weight loss goal. If you exercise, it adds those calories so that you will still be reaching that goal.

    For example, say you have a daily goal of 1500 calories. You eat breakfast for 250 calories, and are then at a net of 250 at that time. Then you go work out and burn 300 calories on the elliptical. It will add those calories and you will be at a net of -50 at that time. The overall goal is to reach 1500 net by the end of the day.

    If you don't work out, or don't enter your exercise calories burned, then your net will always be just what you have logged for food consumed.

    It might be easier to understand if you had burned some exercise calories so that the formula had a value for every field. Here are my current numbers as an example:

    Goal = 1400
    Food = 1838 (includes pre-logged dinner)
    Exercise = -460
    Net = 1378

    The net is the total of the food you've consumed (or plan to consume) minus the calories burned during exercise.
    Net is important because for women, it should never/rarely dip below 1200. For men the # is more like 1400 or 1500, can't remember exactly.

    Food = Add
    Exercise = Subtract
    Net = Total .... And Net should be close to the amount of your Goal.

    That's the simplest way I thought of explaining it :D
