Monthly and weight gain

okay, hate to go here, but it is driving me crazy so I have to ask......I know we have all been told since puberty that you gain up to 5 lbs once a month, was wondering if there is any truth behind that? I have been checking my weight every day or two till my first official weigh in this thursday, was doing GREAT with the losses then today, monthly starts (happy flipping valentine's) and then I step on scale to see a 1 lb weight gain
Thank you for responses :flowerforyou:

I always skip weighing in that week. I gain and retain water no matter how i try to compesate. When i get on the scale that week i get a bit derpessed because I can have a 7 lb gain. I KNOW its just water and hormones but i dont like to see that number after all the hard work i put in! Thats why i wait and weigh in a week after my cycle.0

Ok, assuming you already feel fat and bloated, why get the confirmation? :-p0

Yep, it's just water weight. I usually either gain or hold steady that week, and then show a big loss the next week so at least you have something to look forward to!0

I usually weigh less the week I get it.....then the week after I gain....so I say its true0

You certainly will have weight fluctuations around that time. I can and do gain as much as 6lb. As a previous posters says, I just don't bother weighing in that week anymore. And the water retention for me is from day one of the bleed till it goes away completely. Not so much premenstrually.0

I did the same thing - and according to what I have read on here and on other sites, YES...your weight CAN fluctuate upwards of 1, 5, or even 10lbs! My first week on here I lost 8lbs, my second week I lost 6lbs...was doing GREAT and on a roll doing everything perfectly. The beginning of the third week I stepped on the scale....and UP 5lbs!!!! I nearly stroked out!!! Then, after sticking to my normal routine, and drinking a little extra water, PMS passed and after a week the 5lbs were GONE nearly as quick as they popped up. ((Thank goodness)). So in MY experience, YES....it's SO normal....and it will even itself out, so don't give in or cheat or do anything silly lol. You're a normal female, and unfortunately I guess this is one of our "LUCKY" perks to womanhood. :huh:0

I usually gain weight the week before I start, and then it seems to drop off when I actually do start. No worries!0

I am so glad I found this stream. I was wondering the same thing as I have been dropping pretty steadily. Yesterday I could have killed for carbs so I indulged a little. (okay maybe a lot) . Today, I weighed in and had gained. Later in the morning, I also discovered that I was starting. Although I still feel guilty for ODing on the carbs, I feel a little better knowing that water weight could be playing a part.0

Everytime mother nature comes to visit me I gain 3 lbs. I decided that I will not weight myself again until 2 days after it's over. It's water weight and bloating that I think cause it. Especially if you eat sodium or caffeine it makes it worse.0

I'm so happy I found this thread! Last night I could've killed someone for a carb but I'm in the induction phase of Atkins so I didn't back down and I just had some other types of meat instead. Weighed myself this morning and up 2 lbs SOOOO frustrated. Come to realize later that morning it was TOM.
I don't think I can wait a whole week to weigh myself! Usually mine aren't very bad past the 3rd day... would a Thursday WI be an okay idea you think????0
