NEEDING THE 'TOILET' WHILST DOING A LONG RUN (TREADMILL)

Hi!

I seem to get cramp/dodgy stomach whilst doing long distance runs and it really puts me off, allthough I run through them (god knows how!)


I eat breakfast around 6am, lunch around 1pm and then have a pre-workout snack like a banana and peanut butter about 20 minutes before my run, then following my run i have dinner.

How can i stop this 'needing to go toilet' so i can run normally?

  • You could take an imodium/arret. or any of those anti-diarrhoea tablets before your run!

    Maybe that banana and peanut butter, bouncing around while you run, is causing you to cramp up. Do you drink a lot before your run also?
  • I know outside runners that need a toilet on long run. I think it is somewhat normal. but maybe what you are eating prerun is affecting your cramping. If I run first thing in AM, I don't eat anything, because I know it will affect me. You might need to play with what you can eat before and the timing of it.

    I know I can have a smoothie one hour before spin class, but it would not work for running for me. I can eat a protien bar before body pump, but a full one before running makes me sick to my stomach.

    I get the same way, and make a point to try and go before I start my run. Sometimes it helps, but sometimes not!

    I would NOT do this, at least not if you want to poop normally when you are not running.
