how often do you work out?

I have been working out pretty steady every other day on my treadmill now for about 2 months. I am not seeing hardly any results. Should I workout every day? Am I not doing enough? I usually burn anywhere from 300-400 cals in 30 mins according to my HRM. Should I be doing more? Also recently (about a week now)I have started doing push ups and ab work on the alternate days, but it is getting to be really frustrating and when I don't see results I give up. I really want to make it work this time! I am tired of being a yo-yoer. :grumble:
Any suggestions?

I'm on a "plateau" but it's me not sticking to my eating calories. I eat too much and I know it.
I do work out Monday - Friday for a good 30-40 minutes.
Maybe your workout has become too routine? Are you logging all your food and measuring it too?0 -

I work out on my stationery bike every day, walk for 30-60 minutes every day, go to dance class three days a week, and walk my dogs on the hill once or twice a day. I just starting an aerobics exercise video and am considering yoga. I have a pedometer on my phone that I carry in my pocket and aim for 14,000 steps a day.
Everything I've read says that exercise is very important to someone losing weight and hoping to live a long life.
Also, the closer you get to your ideal weight, the slower the weight will come off. Move a little more, analyze your diet for empty calories, and don't let yourself get discouraged.
Good luck :bigsmile:0 -
I workout 5-6 days a week for 45 min to 2.5 hours for a total of about 6 hours a week. It's not about the scale. It's about being healthy, losing body fat and just plain feeling good.
Do you run on the treadmill or walk? I find the my HRM says I burn a lot less calories on the machines than the machines say I burn except for running where I burn more. Still it takes me an hour of running to burn 400 calories. (The rule of thumb is 100 calories per 1 mile of running.)
If you eat your exercise calories and you aren't burning as many as the formulas say you are, that can be a problem.0 -
From what I can see, you've lost a few, and you only have a few more pounds to lose, and that alone might make it difficult to drop. As the body reaches for fat to burn, the less of it you have to burn, the harder it is for the body to find fuel.
For me, the bottom line is that I have to work out every day if I want to lose 15 more lbs. You might want to add an additional workout or two into your current schedule and see how that works.0 -
I workout everyday for 2hrs....and every 2mths i take a break for 1 week.....no cheat days and no cheat meals i just account for everything i eat....ive had no plateaus....:drinker: the smaller u get the harder it is to lose you may want to start increasing your excercise especially cardio and watch your carbs and fats0

I work out about 4 days a week. Two days I do weights and the other two are cardio for 30-40 mins. I have started to count my calories and do weights and I have lost 29 pounds in over 3 months. I swear its weight lifting. I saw the inches come off faster than the weight. I didn't even like to lift weights. As a christmas gift, I got 3 sessions with a trainer and that's what has really worked. I also switched days doing cardio on the eliptical trainer and then the treadmill. Hang in there and don't give up!

I work out five or six days a week, for about an hour each time. I alternate time on the Gazelle, with strength training and Jillian Michaels' videos (love 'em!)0

I just changed my workout plan I started off at 3 times a week for an hour each time.
Recently I've made it 4 times a week for an hour and a half each time but that 4th workout is proving a challange to get in timewise:grumble:0 -
Wow you have lost 93lbs,that is impressive. That is about how much I want to loose, any tips? Do you plan on posting a before and after picture?0

Compared to a lot of poeple here, I really don't work out that much. I have no set days or number of days, it's just whenever I am able to. For instance right now, I mainly walk on my lunch breaks....if it is raining then I have to do it when I get home....tonight I have dinner plans for my brothers birthday, so if I were to miss my afternoon walk, I really won't have time tonight before it gets dark.
So usually my walks only burn 150-300 calories depending on how far I go. I do burn slightly more in the spring/summer when I can ride my bike, but even then my longest ride is 45 minutes. Despite not working out all that much, I still am losing at a pretty consistent rate and I see areas that have been toned and look better.
Are you accurate with your food? Serving sizes can be greatly overestimated if you're just guessing....invest in a scale if you don't already have one, I got mine from Meijer for like 12 bucks. Are you logging everything you eat, even just bites here and there? It all adds up. Are you logging your drinks? Even milk, while good for you, has anywhere from 80-150 calories a cup, so that can definitely add calories if your not accounting for it.
Other than that, how many calories do you aim for each day? You may need to up it since many people notice more success if they up their calories because they weren't eating enough. Do you eat your exercise calories? It's widely debated here...I eat mine and I think you should, but if you don't and aren't seeing results, then you definitely should try it.0 -
I work out Monday-Friday doing 45 min of cardio plus squats, push ups, and crunches. On the weekend I usually do some type of walking depending on my cals for the day. My b/f and I usually go bike riding a couple of times a week too. Every other day really isn't enough...especially when you don't really have a lot to lose. You should try to up the intensity a little, work out for a little longer and change up your routine...your body will get used to your workout so changing it up may be a big help!
Good Luck!

You have lost over 60lbs in a few months, wow, I want to loose a total of 90-100, but my short term goal is to get out of the 200's. I would love to hear some of your tips you have.0
