So, fairly late last night, my husband's cousin called me to let me know that their other cousin was in town until Wednesday, and they would like for us all to get together tonight. We have not seen these out-of-towners since our wedding four and a half years ago, so obviously, we need to go. The problem was that she tells me this after I have already planned out the next day, packed my lunch and all my snacks, and accounted for a hefty workout. Considering that I work all day, and we are meeting at 5 and I probably won't get home until at least 9, and I go to bed at 10, my workout is pretty much canned. And, she is planning on ordering pizza. So what's a girl to do?
I thought about just saying screw it, that I would work out on Tuesday and make up for it. But then I heard Dave's voice in my head, or at least what I imagine Dave's voice sounds like, saying, "Fix it NOW!" (If you didn't read that post from yesterday, find it and read it) Which of course, was quickly followed by my own voice saying, "Oh great, ANOTHER voice in my head? Like I need THAT!" But anyway, I came up with a plan.
First, since I wasn't going to get in the hefty workout I had planned, I no longer needed a hefty afternoon snack to power me through it. I had cut up a banana with yogurt and had granola to put on top. Knowing that bananas aren't good for very long cut up, I just replaced my breakfast with the snack. No harm done, no food wasted. About 200 calories saved.
Second, I planned out three 15 minute breaks during the day to walk around the building. The first one was mostly stairs, the second two will be mostly not stairs (I haven't taken them quite yet). Thats a little over 200 calories burned.
Third, I'm spacing out the rest of what I packed for the day so that I won't be starving by the time I get to their house, and I will be able to limit myself to two slices of pizza and a salad.
If all goes according to plan, I'll end the day 75 calories short of my net goal for the day. Just enough for a little Hershey's dark chocolate and almond nugget when I get home. I'm pretty committed to the plan, so I think it will go well.
So thanks Dave, for being a voice of reason and not letting me let myself off the hook! Or something like that.
