Sneaker recs?

I've recently started zumba (3 weeks) and a couch potato to 5K jogging trainer (1 week) and my instelps are hurting (almost aching) during jumps (zumba) and jogging.

A girl at work recommended "cross trainer" sneakers instead of running shoes- any other recommendations?

Any recommendations on where I can get a pair of good quality (but non-leather) sneakers?

Thanks in advance!

I will address this from the running side -
The problem with recommending sneakers is that it is a very individual selection. We all have different shaped feet, different gaits/strides and different needs.
If I recommend the shoe I am using to you, you could end up with injuries since I am using a stability shoe and you may not need it.
Even fit of certain brands is very individual. For example, I am a huge Saucony fan and dislike Asics. From conversations with other runners, I either find people like me, or the complete opposite. People who use these brands seem to be in one camp or the other.
Most of the brands out there are decent and offer a wide variety of types of shoes. You need to find out what works for you.

As a new runner, I would highly suggest you go to a running specialty store and get fitted for shoes. They check your gait and suggest shoes that are right for you. Most have a really good return policy so you have a chance to make sure they are right. I know not everyone has access to a running store, I am in the same boat. The nearest one for me is 5 hours away. I visit the store whenever I go on trips but I now have gotten to the point I know what to look for and can buy elsewhere.

A good shoe in running makes a big difference.
