Protein bars can be good ... and bad. It depends a lot on your goals.

I eat them because I need a way to get my protein up that is simple. I spend a lot of time looking at the calories and sugar to make sure I'm not consuming 400 calories in 1 bar, or getting mostly sugar. I'm currently trying out thinkThin bars, which have 230 calories and 20g protein. I have orders some Berry flavored bars from Quest, which has 23g protein and only 170 calories. Still waiting for those to arrive. The quest bars appear to be better, but until I try them I can't say for sure.

I read a book written by a personal trainer who suggests staying away from protein bars because of the amount of sugar they normally contain. And 9 times out of 10, I would agree with that statement!

If calories are a concern, or sugar is a concern, then protein bars may not be the best choice.

sorry if this post is a bit indecisive! :)

Quest bars are the only worthwhile ones i've seen.

I read labels carefully and am rather picky. But they are so handy to have some days for a quick protein boost.

My current favorites are NuGo Slim bars. They come in several flavors. The one I usually get (because it's available locally) has 190 calories, 16g protein, 6g fat, 19g carbs - only 2 of which is sugar. Also, very importantly for me, they don't contain any artificial sweeteners. It's so hard to find a bar that's not loaded with sugar but also doesn't have a bunch of fake sugar.
