Anyone with HYPOTHYROIDISM?!?

I have Hypothyroidism and am not sure if this is greatly affecting my weight loss. I feel I lose weight slower than others! So discouraging sometimes!

Friend- "You seem to have more energy lately!"
Me- "Yea I have been working out, but darnit I haven't started losing yet!"
Friend- "I just stopped drinking soda for 2 weeks and lost 8 lbs, no exercise needed!"
Me- Congrats! (glaring on the inside muttering you SOAB)

It's not that I am not happy for them, it's more of what the hell is wrong with me! Is there a vitamin I can take to boost my thyroid functions? Do I have to just seriously up my work out routine? I do P90X Kenpo Cardio 5-6 times a week (missed Sat+Sun) and am starting to do Jillian with it because I feel I need more! I don't get home until 7:30 most days, so I work in what I can.

UGHHHHHHHHH I feel like I am just being a complainer and a Negative Nancy but it would sure be nice to hear from someone that is going through the same thing!

Any tips for people with Hypothyroidism or even SLOW WEIGHT LOSS!

Have a look at my blog post entitled, "Finally--a breakthrough."

There's a link you may find very interesting.

I'm fighting the same problem. Hypo enough to cause problems, but not enough to affect TSH or T4 levels.

I have been hypo since age 19 and on medication. I am 54 now. Cursed with a slow metabolism. I remember hearing Dr. Phil years ago speak to us slow metabolism whiners. He said something to the effect of :

It doesn't matter if you have a slow metabolism or not. The thing is you have to learn to live with it because that is all you've got.

Maybe not helpful to you but it did speak to me. You do with it what you can. You continue to work out and realize that you weight loss will be slower than "average". But I am 3.4 pounds from my goal of 135 pounds. Not bad for a 54 post menopausal woman with hypothyroidism. How many older women say it is impossible to lose weight? I'd say it is roughly the same number who think it is too much work to do it. I was one of them, but I decided to change my mind and simply decided 5 years ago to do what it took to get me there and NOT GIVE UP.

On the flip side, what I've been hearing lately is that for those of us with slow metabolisms, we tend to live longer as our bodies work at a slower pace so won't burn out as fast. (something along those lines, anyway.)

So cheer up, do what you know to do, keep searching for things that will help you to lose faster. For me, I've really cleaned up my diet and it really helped me blast down to my last 3 pounds. Working towards 80-90% plant based diet and as few preservatives as possible.

Edited note: Just looked at OP profile. You are 24 and started at 204. I was 49 and started at 205 5 years ago. Your goal is 165, mine is 135. I've only been 135 pounds once before as an adult at age 40 and it was for a few weeks after a crash diet that sent my appetite in to the stratosphere when I stopped the diet. I've learned a lot since then. I've learned that I can achieve anything through perseverance and applying myself. Just time and effort. Not winning any land speed awards here, just keeping my nose to the grindstone and plodding along. If this old gal can do it, honey, you could run rings around me, so you go do it! = D

This sounds awesome! I do wonder if it will be safe to take along with my Levothyroxine thyroid supplement. My thyroid was "zapped" (RAI - Radioactive Iodine Treatment) and is no longer active. I will be emailing my doctor about this right now.

Thank you so much, I was no even aware any kind of thyroid "booster" was out there. & I consider myself a googled individual. LMAO <3

I hope I got this right~~~>Basically, stop crying when the horse knocks you off, and get back up on there and RIDE! lol. I appreciate the sincerity in your reply, truly. & yea if NOT BAD AT ALL for post menopause-54-& hypo! Inspiration <3 thank you. Feels so damn good to whine about what you can't do, but feels so much better to know I can do it and then do it! Bless you!

They say you can't and YOU show them you can! Go get 'em! = D Slow & steady wins the race. We already know what happens when you drop out of the race, but to tell you the truth I never knew what would happen if I finished a race because I never finished anything, I was a quitter! So now I know! You win in the end! Doesn't matter if you come in dead last, you still accomplish your goal!
