Weighing in...

How often does everybody check their weight / measurements, etc? I've been weighing myself first thing every morning, but I'm getting discouraged because I don't understand how I can gain so much one day and lose it so fast the next?

Any and all advice appreciated.

I record my weight every Thursday morning. I do get on the scale here and there throughout the week too. I take my measurements every 1st of the month, and take pictures in the same black bra and shorts every 11th of the month.

I need to have other ways to see my progress if the scale is not cooperating. LoL. I have been here since Nov 11th and have lost something every week except one week where I stayed the same. But I'm sure that wont continue (would be nice though) so that is why I take measurements and pictures!!

This is why I only weigh and measure myself once per week. My day is Sunday morning, I write it all down and then record it on MFP.

Once a week, Tuesday mornings. Sometimes I'll let myself to take a peek on Saturday morning. But no more than that, or I make myself CRAZY!!

I love the suggestions. I'm going to change how I've been going along. I'll weigh once a week and measure once a month, and I absolutely love the idea of taking a pic once a month wearing the same clothes.

    Thanks so much!

Weight can very quite significantly from day to day based upon water weight. I use JEFit (free android/iphone app) to track my weight and body fat percentage daily. It gives you nice graphs of change over time, so I don't really worry too much about an individual day's reading, but can look at the trend of the graph to make sure I am still going in the right direction. It will also do the same with body measurements (monthly is probably good for those). It's also really great for tracking resistance training workouts.

The other thing I am doing to track my progress is my daughter made me a tshirt with her handprints on it about 5 years ago. I have never been able to wear it because it never fit me. I pulled it out of the closet the other day and put it on. It was skiiiinnn tight but we took a pic of me in it, and will keep taking them every month till it fits me properly!!

I weight myself everyday, BUT I enjoy it. I have no emotional attachment to what the scale says. Today I somehow gained a pound since yesterday. I know I had some Valentine's Day treats yesterday, so even though I wasn't thrilled, I wasn't surprised either and I know that if I put it on one day, I can get rid of it in a day. I just kind of shrugged it off. I definitely get a sense of joy when I lose a pound, but even then, I don't log the weight loss on MFP until after I've seen the number appear for a few consecutive days, that way I know it's not just some fluke.

I don't recommend weighing yourself everyday if you can't maintain that level of detachment. Otherwise, once a week is probably good. I have a friend who went almost 2 months without weighing herself, and then she found out she gained a few pounds. For me, I like the accountability, but I don't let it get me down either.

    You have to decide.

And I'm also all for before and after pics!

Regarding taking a photo once per month, yes definitely do that, that is one thing that just has to be done because cannot be changed afterwards. Wish I had done that actually, taken a before photo :(. When I reach my goal, I will just have to use an old photo where I weighed the same as my starting weight this time.
