I went for my first good hard walk the other night, and I went for about 45 minutes. I loved it. The next morning when I woke up my calves were really REALLY hurting. I couldn't walk properly, I was sort of staggering about. I've been doing little stretches throughout the day and last night, but I've woken up again with sore calves. What have I done wrong, and how can I fix it? I want to do more exercise!!

warm up and stretch before and after you exercise. you didnt do anything wrong, just didnt stretch . that's what i do when i run and it helps!

It will probably just take time for your calves to get use to it. when I started insanity my calves were KILLING me. this week ( i'm on week 2) I have no calve pain what so ever... it just takes a little time.

I will give you a tip... don't stretch unless you have warmed up your muscles.... so soak in a bath or take a hot shower and then stretch...

before you walk warm up with some jumping jacks and jogging in place and then stretch before you leave... repeat stretches when you are finished with your walk :-)

Keep walking, you need to get those muscles going again. I was sore yesterday from my Monday workout, and guess what I did, I did a light off day workout. I was even more sore today, which I expected as the second day is often worse. I did a full workout even lifting weights doing deadlifts, although it was my legs that were most sore. Now the workout is done followed by stretching, and I have no pain at all.

My calves are constantly sore. You kind of learn to deal with it.

Mine did get better when I switched to a better shoe, started drinking protein shakes and made sure I was REALLY hydrated.

But I COMPLETELY understand your frustration. My calves are very lean but large and muscular and they are constantly tight no matter what I do. Best of luck to you.
