So I am hearing that eating desserts in the morning will spike your metabolism all day. Anyone trying this or know of someone?

I don't know anything about that, however, chocolate cake for breakfast would probably come to around 300 calories. I would rather have 300 calories worth of eggs and fruit.0 -
You might be better off with coffee of something with caffeine. The carb crash from the cake isn't worth it. Plus you'll crave crap all day. Another thing you could do is work out in the morning or try HIIT0

what about a smoothie with cacao powder instead - you could combine with banana - would be delicious!0

Just add grapefruit juice, and you're all set!

a local radio station was talking about the same thing the other day. saying that the sugar will spike your metabolism and also should take away your craving for sugar for the rest of the day.
personally, im not going for it.... by me it would be considered a "bad" start to the day and would set the tone. but i may also be struggling a bit mentally with the whole food control thing, so maybe dont take it from me also i couldnt go more than 24 hours without my oatmeal xD0 -

I wouldn't go with that either, seriously.
I don't know where some people are getting such ideas, I can only gather than they have never actually experienced a diet or all that accompanies one.
If I were to eat cake for brekkie, I will tell you exactly how my day would pan out and the reason I am so ****-sure, is because that is how I used to eat before losing weight, that is how I used to eat when I was piling on the weight.
I would wake up, go to the cupboard, "ooh a cake" stuff stuff stuff. It wouldn't fill me up in the slightest and I would crave more. "oh just a bit more" stuff stuff stuff. No willpower, no discipline and no thought.
Spike?? Don't make me laugh, it is just an excuse to stuff one's face, I should know, I have done that in the past
I wonder why they thought it would take away the craving for the day? If anything, it used to start mine off!! If I didn't start off the day by eating such things, I would most likely be okay and be quite good all day, but the moment high carb foods or foods high in sugar passed my lips, that was it for the day, I may as well have gone back to bed lol.0 -

Dad is great...gives us the chocolate cake. lol0 -
you can eat the cake any time of day.0

i read this article too... let me now if it works0

I loooooove the thought behind this, and admittedly have tried it. For me, it does not work. I actually found myself craving crap the rest of the day.0

I'm sorry, but cake for breakfast is absolutely disgusting!0

I ate chocolate cake at 9:30 am with my lil man on his birthday this year and 2 hours later PR'ed on my bench press, it was fun. Can't see it doing anything other than just adding to your carb/fat count for the day and giving you a boost of energy for the first few hours.0

People want us to believe that but I don't buy it! Anything like that just makes you hungry all day!0

Here's a link to an article on Today talking about the study.

I have been using a diet method called carb backloading which saves the carbs for post training later in the evening and have seen great results in terms of both fat loss and muscle/strength gain. The best part is that you load up on simple carbs so you get to enjoy cake and cookies.0

I like this idea! Workit off throughout the day!0

I've tried this for most of my life. Definitely, didn't help me lose weight. It sounds like a classic Bill Cosby Show.0

If you are using your Bill Cosby logic, it's got all your breakfast essentials. "Dad is great! Gives us chocolate cake!"0

Fruit has good sugar in it. I'd want to kick my own behind if I ever ate cake for breakfast. Then again... a warm fiber one brownie.....no stop it!0

Just add grapefruit juice, and you're all set!
Love this.
Desserts will not matter to your metabolism. For the macros, you'd be better off having a more filling breakfast of eggs, oats/toast, and fruit.
I will add though...if just want some cake, well have some damn cake!0 -
Or, you could make a healthy substitute
I made a pretty good cake tasteing smoothie using just chocolate protein powder, and 2 tablespoons of that jello pudding mix, using a cheesecake flavored one.
Only came to roughly 250 calories and its filling.0 -

Yeah I heard it on the radio too. I agree that is way too much sugar before or after a work out. But hey if the numbers show some type of improvement....0

Where does that leave the daily calorie allowance though?
See not all of us are into weights.0 -
It leaves it high but the basic nuts and bolts theory of it is that the you are refilling the muscles with glycogen and using insulin to stimulate a higher storage capability which enhances both size and recovery while the glut 4 receptors are the surface of the muscle soaking up the sugar. The calories will be higher of course such is the nature of building muscle and as well all know add more muscle = a higher daily caloric burn while resting. I have seen the results for myself and prior to trying this I would have laughed at it and said it was impossible but like I said I have seen the results first hand. If you are not into weights that is cool, to each their own, but steady state cardio in my opinion is a waste of time because you can accomplish much more for fat loss with HIIT. I was once a steady state cardio advocate for fat loss then made the switch to hiit and saw greater results with that training. Both hitt and weights deplete muscle glycogen faster than any steady state cardio program will, thereby shortening gym time.0
